House of the Dragon is an upcoming most anticipated TV series, that is set to air on HBO in 2022. It will be a prequel to the globally popular, Emmy Award-winning TV series, Game of Thrones. After at least one failed attempt to spin off another Game of Thrones show, a new prequel series called House of the Dragon is finally in the making. It is about the Targaryen ancestors and the royal line that ended in a fiery end with The mad King and his daughter, Daenerys the Mother of Dragons.
Games of Thrones premiered more than 10 years ago. Now, the first spinoff of the most popular show of the 21st Century is coming to you. Fans have waited for more information and a first glimpse at the series since then.
We don’t have much information about the project at this time, but here are the details we do have, along with the first set images.
When does ‘House of the Dragon’ premiere?
“House of the Dragon,” which will air on HBO in 2022, will be streamed on HBO Max and streaming on HBO Max. There is no specific premiere date yet. After HBO’s amazing night at the 2020 Emmy Awards, Casey Bloys, HBO’s head for programming, stated to Deadline that production was ongoing and that the series would debut in 2022 despite delays due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Who’s in the ‘House of the Dragon’ cast?
The prequel cast is stronger than Season 1’s, with more recognizable names. HBO has already announced a large portion of the main cast.
Paddy Considine, who is most well-known for his role in “The Outsider”, but will be remembered as the father from Jim Sheridan’s “In America”, will play King Viserys Tarrayen. He’s a decent man whose demeanour makes him unfit for the task. The Great Council of Westeros Lords chose him to become the king following the death of his grandfather Jaeharys Tgaryn.
Olivia Cooke, “Sound of Metal”) star, plays Alicent Hightower (notting hill actor Rhys Ifans), who is the Hand of King.
Emma D’arcy, who plays Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in Amazon’s short-lived horror comedy “Truth Seekers”, is the actress. Rhaenyra was the king’s firstborn, but she isn’t a man so the Iron Throne doesn’t belong to her.
Matt Smith, a star of “The Crown” as well as “Doctor Who,” will play Prince Daemon Targaryen. He is King Viserys’ younger brother. He is a brave knight and dragonrider, but he is unstable and displays a cruel streak that can be seen across the board. Otto Hightower doesn’t want him next in line.
Steve Toussaint, the “Doctor Who,” actor, is Lord Corlys Velaryon. He’s also known as “the Sea Snake” and is the leader of House Velaryon. He is married to Princess Rhaenys Velaryon (Nurse Jackie) and they are a Targaryen dragonrider. The Great Council for the Monarchy passed him over in favor of her cousin Viserys, who is a man.
Sonoya Mizuno, actress in “Ex Machina”, plays Mysaria. She is a former slave who worked her way up to become Prince Daemon’s most trusted advisor.
Fabien Frankel, the “The Serpent”, star will play Ser Criston Col, a common-born Dornish sailor (remember Dorne?) This is where Oberyn Marstell [Pedro Pascal] came from. His skill with the knife is helping him climb the Westerosi social ladder. He’ll be known later as “Criston The Kingmaker”, after he played a key role in one the story’s most significant moments, according To Inverse.
Who’s working behind the scenes?
“House of the Dragon,” co-created with George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal are best-known for their sci-fi series, “Colony.”
Condal, Miguel Sapochnik, who were the directors of several of the most important episodes of “Game of Thrones”, including “Hardhome”, “The Battle of the Bastards” and “The Long Night”, will serve as co-showrunners. Vince Gerardis and Ron Schmidt are also executive producers, as well as Martin, Condal and Sapochnik. Sara Lee Hess is the writer.
Sapochnik will be directing the pilot episode and other episodes. Clare Kilner and Geeta Vatel will also be directing the pilot episode. Greg Yaitanes gets a co-executive producer credit. Insider reports that the show’s writing team includes Wes Tooke (Colony) writer, Claire Kiechel (Watchmen) writer, and Ti Mikkel (who has previously worked as Martin’s assistant writer).
What Is House of the Dragon About?
House of the Dragon, adapted from Martin’s Targaryen history books Fire & Blood is set 300 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones. The Dance of the Dragons is a famous event in Westeros’ history. This civil war erupted between the siblings Aegon II, and Rhaenyra to claim the throne following the death of their father Viseryss I. All of Westeros was at war with each other, with Lannisters and Starks joining either side. Many of House Targaryens powerful dragons died, and soon afterward they would all go extinct. Daenerys Targaryen would then hatch three eggs hundreds years later.
Will there be dragons inside the House of the Dragon?
You already know this! It’s likely that there will be more dragons than on “Game of Thrones”, because dragons have not gone extinct yet and all of the great Targaryens were equipped with a fire-breather.
The show will feature at least four of these: Rhaenyra’s Syrax and Rhaenys’ Meleys. These are Westeros’ fastest dragons. Aegon’s golden Sunfyre is the other. There will likely be more as the series progresses and the Dance of Dragons starts.
Who will play Daemon Targaryen in the ‘House of the Dragon’?
Matt Smith will play Daemon Targaryen. He is a popular character from “Fire & Blood,” and is well-known for his roles in British institutions.
Smith was the Eleventh Doctor in the science fiction series Doctor Who, which ran from 2010 to 2013. He is the youngest Doctor to have ever been created. He is also well-known for his role as Prince Philip in “The Crown”‘s first two seasons.
